Professional Cleanings, Exams, and X-rays
At Lindsey A. Robinson DDS Pediatric and Endodontic Dentistry we suggest that you come in at least once every six months for a professional cleaning and examination. Being able to see you and evaluate your oral health once every six months allows us to stay current on your oral health issues and treat them as they present themselves. A great oral hygiene routine at home is critical to maintaining a healthy mouth, but without regular screenings and cleanings, you risk issues like cavities that can be damaging to your teeth.
Digital X-rays provide our practice and our patients with tremendous value. Traditional X-rays required excessive setup and time to develop and exposed patients to five times the amount of radiation that our digital X-ray does. Now, with digital X-rays, we can view your X-rays in high definition just moments after taking them.
Keeping your X-rays up-to-date means one X-ray per year, so if you keep a regular schedule with us of being seen once every six months, we will only take an X-ray during every other appointment. Using these X-rays, we will be able to spot issues between your teeth and even below the gums. They even allow us to detect issues like oral tumors and cysts.
Professional Dental Cleanings
Professional dental cleanings are our way of ensuring your teeth are completely clean. Regular brushing and flossing go a long way in the fight against tooth decay, but there are always places that you will miss and plaque will build up. We use a device called an ultrasonic scaler to remove the tough tartar that builds up in areas that you miss in your oral hygiene routine. The ultrasonic scaler uses ultrasonic vibrations paired with a steady flow of water to break up and wash away plaque and tartar. You will recognize this device by the distinctive, high-pitched sound that it makes as we use it to clean your teeth.
We will brush and floss your teeth thoroughly and make sure that all food particles are removed and then finish by polishing your teeth. Polishing your teeth helps to remove stains and discolorations that have built up on the surface of your enamel. It also makes the surface of your teeth smooth, so that plaque and tartar have a difficult time gaining purchase on them.
Professional Dental Examinations
A professional dental examination will typically be that last part of your regular appointment. Lindsey A. Robinson, DDS will check your teeth for signs of tooth decay, cracks, chips, and other oral health issues. Lindsey A. Robinson, DDS will do a visual inspection of your teeth and even check for issues like oral cancer and gum disease. We will do gum pocket measurements to determine the health of your gums.
Good Oral Hygiene Habits
We recommend that your brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Following the meals that you cannot brush after (usually lunch) try to remember to rinse your mouth out with water, which functions to wash away food particles and keep your mouth clean.
